Electricity Base Tariff Approved for 2026; Per-Unit Rates Announced Nationwide

The electricity base tariff for 2026 will remain unchanged across Pakistan, including Karachi, after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved the uniform tariff structure and forwarded its decision to the federal government for notification.

According to NEPRA, the new base tariff will take effect from January 1, 2026. The decision follows a hearing held on the government’s request for a countrywide uniform electricity tariff for the upcoming year.

Domestic Electricity Tariff Slabs for 2026

NEPRA’s decision confirms that the maximum domestic electricity tariff will remain Rs. 47.69 per unit. The detailed slab-wise tariffs are as follows:

Protected Domestic Consumers

1–100 units: Rs. 10.54 per unit
101–200 units: Rs. 13.01 per unit

Non-Protected Domestic Consumers

1–100 units: Rs. 22.44 per unit
101–200 units: Rs. 28.91 per unit
201–300 units: Rs. 33.10 per unit
301–400 units: Rs. 37.99 per unit
401–500 units: Rs. 40.22 per unit
501–600 units: Rs. 41.62 per unit
601–700 units: Rs. 42.76 per unit
Above 700 units: Rs. 47.69 per unit

Lifeline Consumer Tariffs

Up to 50 units per month: Rs. 3.95 per unit
51–100 units per month: Rs. 7.74 per unit

NEPRA clarified that taxes and duties will be applied separately, which may increase the final electricity bill depending on consumption slabs.

Earlier Proposed Reduction Not Implemented

It is worth noting that NEPRA had earlier approved a reduction of 62 paisas per unit in the base tariff for 2026 and forwarded the recommendation to the federal government. However, the government decided to maintain the existing base tariff, keeping electricity prices unchanged nationwide.

The decision aims to maintain price stability while continuing electricity subsidies for consumers, especially protected and lifeline users.
