The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a strong warning to mobile users, cautioning them against scam calls and messages in which fraudsters impersonate PTA, FIA, and banks to steal personal and financial information.

In an official video message, the PTA clarified that no government institution ever asks for OTPs, PIN codes, CNIC numbers, or biometric details through phone calls or text messages. The authority urged mobile users to remain vigilant and verify any information only through official channels.

PTA’s Key Warning

PTA stressed that scammers are increasingly using fake identities of government bodies and financial institutions to deceive citizens. Users are advised not to share sensitive information under any circumstances and to immediately report suspicious calls or messages.

SIM Usage Responsibility Reminder

Earlier, PTA had also reminded users to ensure responsible use of SIMs and telecommunication services, warning that using a SIM registered in another person’s name is a violation of telecom regulations.

The authority emphasized that:

  • The registered SIM holder is fully responsible for any misuse

  • All calls, messages, and data usage made through a registered SIM will be attributed to the registered user

  • Legal action may be taken in case of violations

PTA urged citizens to strictly follow telecom laws and regulations to avoid penalties and ensure their own digital safety.
