The Lahore Police have introduced a comprehensive policy framework for 2026, aimed at improving accountability, professionalism, and public trust across police stations in the city.

Under the new policy, the performance of police officials — from constable level to Station House Officers (SHOs) — will be directly linked to public feedback, marking a major shift in how police conduct is evaluated.

Lahore Police Introduce New Rules for 2026

Respectful Public Interaction Made Mandatory

As part of the standardized code of conduct, police officers will be required to address male visitors as “Sir” and female visitors as “Ma’am”. Officials have been directed to maintain respectful and courteous behavior at all times while interacting with citizens.

Authorities have declared 2026 as a transition year, during which officers will be trained and monitored to ensure compliance with the new behavioral standards.

Police Stations to Function as Citizen Facilitation Centers

Senior police officials stated that all police stations in Lahore will operate as citizen facilitation centers, rather than environments that discourage complaints.

Disrespectful conduct by police staff has long been a public concern, and officials believe these structured reforms will help improve the department’s public image and rebuild confidence.

Strict Action Against Misconduct

The new policy allows for swift departmental action, including transfers, suspensions, and disciplinary proceedings, against officers found guilty of rude behavior, harassment, or misuse of authority inside police stations.

It has also been made mandatory for SHOs, muharrars, and duty staff to formally record feedback from every visitor, covering their experience from entry to exit.

Emergency Response & Checkpoints Under Review

The policy further links the response time of the 15 emergency helpline and police patrol units to the overall performance evaluation of police stations.

Similar performance standards will apply to police checkpoints, where complaints related to harassment and unnecessary stoppages have reportedly increased. New guidelines have been issued to ensure identity checks remain lawful and do not inconvenience citizens.

Officials said these measures were introduced after repeated reports of aggressive conduct and as a continuation of accountability reforms initiated in 2025.
