Stadium Construction and Location

CDA officials confirmed that construction of the stadium is expected to be completed this year, making it ready for national cricket events. The stadium will be located near Sector D-12 at the foothills of the Margalla Hills and is projected to have a seating capacity of approximately 32,000 spectators.

Design and Seating Features

The stadium will feature a three-tier design:

  • Lower Tier: General spectators

  • Middle Tier: VIP and premium seating

  • Upper Tier: Shaded seating for comfort

One of the highlights under consideration is a Ring of Fire LED lighting system, inspired by the one at Dubai International Stadium, enhancing the visual experience for fans.

Roofing Options and International Inspiration

CDA is reviewing multiple roofing options to provide world-class facilities, including:

  • Tensile fabric roofs like Melbourne Cricket Ground

  • Semi-transparent steel and polycarbonate roofs used at Lord’s and Sydney Cricket Ground

  • Retractable roof systems seen at Wembley and Marvel Stadium

Partnership and Revenue Sharing

The project is a joint venture between CDA and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). CDA plans to lease approximately 280 kanals of land on a long-term basis, with revenue sharing set at 70:30 in favor of PCB, ensuring mutual benefits for cricket promotion in Pakistan.

Significance for Pakistani Cricket

Once completed, the stadium will be a major hub for national and international cricket events, elevating Islamabad as a key cricketing destination. Hosting the PSL 2027 opening ceremony and matches will provide a platform to showcase Pakistan’s modern sports infrastructure to fans worldwide.
