Consumers across Pakistan may receive another major relief as petroleum product prices are expected to decrease from January 16, according to government sources. This potential reduction comes shortly after the significant price cut announced at the start of the new year.
Sources said that petroleum prices could drop by up to Rs. 4.59 per liter overall. Petrol is expected to become cheaper by Rs. 4.59 per liter, while high-speed diesel (HSD) may see a reduction of Rs. 2.70 per liter.

In addition, the price of kerosene oil is likely to decrease by Rs. 1.82 per liter, whereas light diesel oil (LDO) could become cheaper by Rs. 2.08 per liter.
Following approval from the Prime Minister, the Petroleum Division will officially announce the revised prices, which will remain applicable for the next 15 days.
It is worth noting that on January 1, 2026, petrol prices were reduced by Rs. 10.28 per liter, while high-speed diesel prices were cut by Rs. 8.57 per liter, providing substantial relief to consumers.
Officials attribute the expected price reduction to a decline in international oil prices, lower customs duties, and changes in currency exchange rates. In the global market, petrol prices dropped by $2.74 per barrel on January 11, bringing the price down to $66.54 per barrel.
